W03 Reflection - My Personal Code of Conduct on my Entrepreneurial Journey.

This week has been an enriching journey of self-reflection and learning, particularly in the areas of ethics, integrity, and entrepreneurship. As I crafted my list of “Things I Will Always Do” and “Things I Will Never Do,” I found myself contemplating the importance of setting ethical guardrails early in one’s entrepreneurial journey. These principles, which serve as my moral compass, are crucial for guiding the decisions I will face in business. They reflect a commitment to integrity, fairness, and transparency—values that, in the long run, contribute to sustainable success and trust. I have deliberately added my top five “Will Always Do, and Will Never Do” as a constant reminder of the principles that will guide me throughout my entrepreneurial journey.

Personal Code of Conduct

Things I Will Always Do:

  1. Prioritize Integrity
I will always be honest and transparent in all business dealings. Integrity builds trust and honesty, which are essential for long-term success.
  2. Treat Employees with Respect
I will always foster a culture of respect and fairness. Because happy and respected employees are more productive and loyal.
  3. Pursue Continuous Learning
I will continuously seek new knowledge and skills to stay adaptable and innovative in my entrepreneurial journey as seen in the case study of Magdalena Yesil.
  4. Give Back to the Community
I will always make an effort to contribute to the community, understanding that businesses thrive when they positively impact society.
  5. Maintain Work-Life Balance
I will prioritize my family's well-being, mental health, and personal well-being to avoid burnout and ensure sustained productivity and happiness.

 Things I Will Never Do:

  1. Compromise Ethics for Profit
I will never sacrifice ethical values, no matter the potential financial gain. Integrity will always come first.
  2. Exploit Employees or Partners
I will never take advantage of others for personal or business gain. Exploitation damages relationships and morale.
  3. Engage in Deceptive Practices
I will never use false advertising or misleading tactics to manipulate customers or stakeholders.
  4. Ignore Environmental Responsibility
I will never disregard the impact my business has on the environment and will always strive for sustainability.
  5. Neglect Customer Feedback
I will never ignore the voices of my customers. Their input is essential for the growth and improvement of my business.

Again, Reflecting on Magdalena Yesil's case study, I was reminded of the power of lifelong learning and perseverance in entrepreneurship. Yesil's journey—from overcoming cultural and gender-based barriers to establishing herself as a successful entrepreneur in Silicon Valley—embodies the importance of adaptability and passion. One of the key lessons I took away from her story was her unwavering commitment to learning and evolving, which was directly linked to her success. Yesil's ethical foundation also played a significant role in her decision-making processes, particularly when weighing opportunities like the offer from USVP. Her example reinforces my belief that success is not just about financial gain, but about staying true to one's values and purpose.

From this week’s study on Honesty and Business Ethics, I gained a deeper understanding of how ethical decision-making is essential for building a long-lasting and reputable business. The videos and readings emphasized that cutting corners, even for short-term gains, can lead to significant consequences in the long run. For example, misleading stakeholders or taking advantage of vulnerable markets may yield profits in the short term, but such actions can irreparably damage a company’s reputation and trust. This was a critical takeaway that aligned with my principle of never compromising on ethics for profit.

One concept that resonated with me was the importance of transparency, both in dealing with employees and customers. Trust is earned over time through consistent actions that demonstrate honesty and fairness. In the long run, these ethical decisions can lead to a more sustainable business, stronger relationships, and a positive reputation. I realized that while challenges may arise that test these values, maintaining them in every decision will help guide me toward becoming a responsible entrepreneur.

Looking forward, I’m excited to continue learning about the intersection between entrepreneurship and ethics. I want to explore more about how entrepreneurs, especially in fast-paced industries, navigate ethical dilemmas while balancing personal fulfillment and business success. Understanding how to implement these lessons will be crucial as I move forward in my own journey.

It provided me with a framework not just for identifying what I want to pursue in life, but also how to overcome the fears that stand in the way of those pursuits. In this reflection, I will delve into the key lessons I have learned, particularly from the readings, videos, and the exercise on deconstructing fears, and connect them to broader entrepreneurial and personal life concepts. Learning from "How Will You Measure Your Life" The W04 Study: "How Will You Measure Your Life" readings and videos were deeply thought-provoking, particularly because they pushed me to think beyond immediate career goals and material success. They forced me to evaluate the broader picture: What will I ultimately consider a successful life? This is a question that often goes unanswered as we get lost in day-to-day ambitions or the ...
For my Week 13 journal entry in BUS110, I have chosen to reflect on the case study The Making of an Entrepreneur . It captures the essence of personal growth through continuous learning while showcasing the courage, resilience, and strategic thinking required to navigate the entrepreneurial journey. Reflecting on this case allows me to connect these lessons to my aspirations and challenges.
